My Dad

Dad, you were the epitome of strength, throughout your life. You came from a long line of strong men. I am privileged to be a part of that lineage and to carry on that tradition of strength. I/We will miss you tremendously, but I/we will also be ever cognizant of who you were and what you instilled in me/us. Of course, there are so many things that I do and recall as it relates to you, to our relationship, but one thing that resonates with me in this very moment is your saying, "What you gonna do?" It was never really a question, you didn't expect a response. It was merely a rhetorical statement that would essentially cause the person to think, even if only for a minute ... what am I gonna do. But, it also meant that you ultimately understood that God was in control, even though you never really talked from a spiritual vantage point. I always smiled when I heard you say that, just as I am right now. What YOU gonna do ... rest in peace, that's what. I love you Dad!
